ZERO TO SPEARO
THREE DAYS and one complete spearfishing foundation
Zero to Spearo is our complete three-day beginner spearfishing program, designed to take you from the fundamentals of shore diving all the way to reef and bluewater hunting. Each day builds on the last, giving you more time in the water, more hands-on instruction, and more opportunity to develop the skills that make you a confident and capable dive partner.
Rather than rushing through the basics, this course adds an extra hour of instruction to each stage of the progression. That additional time allows us to slow things down, correct technique, repeat important skills, and make sure you understand not just what to do, but why you’re doing it.
Throughout the three days, you’ll work on equipment setup, water comfort, freediving technique, buddy awareness, fish identification, hunting strategy, shot selection, reef awareness, bluewater positioning, and the decision-making that comes with progressing into more advanced environments.
Because every Zero to Spearo course is limited to a maximum of four divers, our guides are able to give each student individual attention and real-time feedback throughout the program.
Day 1 — Shore | 4 Hours
Your first day is all about building a strong foundation.
We begin from shore in a controlled environment where you’ll learn how to properly set up and use your equipment, move efficiently through the water, improve your water entry and descent, understand basic freediving technique, and develop good buddy habits from the start.
Once the fundamentals are in place, we begin introducing the hunting side of spearfishing. You’ll learn how to identify common reef species, understand where fish tend to hold, approach them without pushing them away, and improve your chances of making a clean, successful shot.
The goal of Day 1 is confidence, control, and good habits.
Day 2 — Reef | 5 Hours
Day 2 takes everything you learned from shore and puts it into a more dynamic boat-based environment.
You’ll begin diving different reef structures and depths while continuing to improve your descents, breath-hold efficiency, body positioning, and buddy awareness. Your guide will work with you on reading the reef, recognizing productive areas, understanding fish behavior, choosing the right approach, and making better decisions on each dive.
This is where the individual skills begin to come together into real reef hunting.
The additional time allows us to make repeated drops, review what happened, make adjustments, and immediately put those changes into practice on the next dive.
Day 3 — Bluewater | 6 Hours
The final day takes you beyond the reef and into the open ocean.
Bluewater spearfishing introduces a completely different environment, and Day 3 is designed to help you understand how to approach it calmly and confidently. You’ll learn bluewater positioning, buddy protocol, open-water awareness, fish approach, shot selection, and how to remain composed when there is no visible bottom beneath you.
Your guide will also work with you on breath-hold technique, efficient diving, communication, and understanding how pelagic fish move and react in open water.
By this point, you’ll be combining the fundamentals from the first two days with the added challenges of a true bluewater environment.
What You’ll Learn
Over the three days, the course covers equipment setup and use, freediving fundamentals, water entry and descents, buddy awareness, fish identification, reef and bluewater hunting strategy, fish approach, shot placement, water awareness, and the habits that make you a better and more dependable dive partner.
The goal isn’t simply to get you through three days of diving. It’s to give you a strong foundation you can continue building on long after the course is over.
Everything You Need Is Included
All necessary freediving and spearfishing equipment is included, including spearguns, fins, mask, snorkel, weight belt, and other required gear. If you already own equipment you’re comfortable using, you’re more than welcome to bring it.
Photos and video from your time in the water are also included.
Small Groups. More Instruction.
Zero to Spearo is limited to a maximum of four divers, allowing our guides to spend more time with each student and provide meaningful, individual feedback throughout the three days.
By the end of the course, you’ll have progressed from learning the basics in shallow water to applying those skills on the reef and experiencing bluewater spearfishing — with a much stronger understanding of the sport, better in-water habits, and the confidence to continue developing as a spearo.
This course includes Captain, Guide, photos + videos of your dive, and all necessary gear. We offer snacks, water and soft drinks on board.
