VESSELS AND CREW- puerto rico 2026
OUR HISTORY
Life Below the Surface has deep roots in the waters off western Puerto Rico. For over 15 years, we’ve guided clients across oceans, combining hard-earned experience with a commitment to safety. What began as a small family venture in Rincón, Puerto Rico has grown into an operation that takes clients from local reefs to some of the most remote fisheries in the world.
We built this business the long way—by spending countless hours in the water, learning, refining, and living the lifestyle. That process has shaped not just how we fish and dive, but how we run our trips: professional, down-to-earth, and always focused on delivering the best possible day on the water.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of putting countless clients on their first wahoo, tuna, and many other prized species. Those moments—watching someone achieve a milestone catch—are what continue to inspire us.

CAPTAIN JORDAN “COLDWATER” WILCOX
CAPTAIN/ FISHING GUIDE
Captain Jordan is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but his adventurous spirit led him to Homer, Alaska, where he discovered a passion for charter fishing that became a 15-year career. In 2017, Jordan married his wife Melanie, a proud Boricua, who introduced him to the beauty and culture of Puerto Rico. Drawn to the island’s warm weather and vibrant energy, they now spend winters in Puerto Rico, where Jordan quickly became a natural fit with the Life Below the Surface team. Known for his enthusiasm, humor, and easygoing nature, Captain Jordan brings nonstop energy to every trip—whether he’s sharing fishing tips, cracking jokes, or sneaking a bite of your snacks to keep things light and fun.

TYLER "TYGER" DAVIS
CAPTAIN/ FISHING GUIDE
Captain Tyler “Tyger” Davis hails from the legendary fishing town of Montauk, New York, where he learned to fish among the best. He’s been wintering in Puerto Rico since his days as a young grom in the lineup at María’s, and you’ll always find Tyler wherever the fish are biting, the waves are breaking, or the energy is high. A confident captain and highly knowledgeable fisherman, Tyler is the one you want at the helm whether trolling, live-baiting, or setting up a bluewater drift for Puerto Rico’s coveted wahoo. With fishing in his blood and a sharp eye for conditions coming together, Tyler brings instinct, humor, and an all-around good vibe to every trip—making sure clients are in the right place at the right time.

Captain Makai
RETIRED LEGENDARY CAPTAIN
Captain Makai was at the helm for many of our early trips, playing a key role in Life Below the Surface during its formative years. We owe Makai an ocean of gratitude for his time, patience, and willingness to share his deep knowledge of seamanship, navigation, and boat building. A true master of his craft, Makai has an intuitive understanding of the sea and a steady presence that put both crew and clients at ease. He has since achieved a longtime goal of joining the New York City Fire Department, and while we were sad to see him step away from the helm in Rincón, we couldn’t be more proud. If you’re lucky, you may still catch Makai filling in on a trip while visiting the island—where he’s spent years putting clients on quality fish and unforgettable experiences.

"Culverito"
Culver, affectionately known as “Culverito,” is the mini member of the Life Below the Surface crew. You’ll often find him at the ramp greeting returning divers and fishermen with a shaka, a big smile, and first dibs on checking out the day’s catch. When he’s not helping his dad clean the boat after a charter or at baseball practice, Culver jumps at every opportunity to get on the water and see what’s biting. Learning from world-class divers and fishermen who visit us from around the globe, Culver represents the future of fishing and freediving in Puerto Rico—and he can’t wait to join the crew whenever he gets the chance.
